A tough time ...
A tough time...
In April 2004 I moved EquusLoco from Pagosa Springs to Westcliffe, Colorado.
It was obvious that the summer of '06 would be busy with fencing, remodeling, building an arena etc. So only one clinic with Steve Houston was scheduled for the year, in order to give us enough time to complete all the work at our new location.
Unfortunately, I had a huge setback. In May, I suffered a life-threatening injury. No, I did not fall off my horse. I was a passenger in the back seat of my truck. The person driving lost control, causing a rollover. I broke my neck and almost severed my spinal cord. Thank God, no one else was seriously injured.
Surgery was required; a metal plate and a bone graft were placed in my neck, and I spent 6 months in a brace. I'm lucky to be alive and not paralyzed.
Due to this unfortunate event, I was unable to ride this past summer. Actually, I wasn’t able to do much at all. But I was doing extremely well, considering..... It was a close call. I'm very grateful and I'm counting my blessings.
I supervised most of the work that needed to be done here, at Equusloco.
